Indonesia to move towards B100 biodiesel

The Indonesian government says they are developing a conceptual design to produce biodiesel up to B100 as part of their efforts to achieve energy self-sufficiency.

Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Balil Rahadarya made the announcement at a press conference in Jakarta on Sunday.

Currently, Indonesia’s required biodiesel product is B35, a mixture of 35 percent palm oil fatty acid methyl ester and 65 percent diesel fuel.

B35 is implemented on February 1, 2023

The government is in the process of enhancing the advanced biodiesel product by increasing the percentage of palm oil to 40% (i.e. B40).

The ministry has confirmed that the mandatory B40 program will be launched on January 1, 2025.

Apart from B40, the government is also exploring the feasibility of introducing B50.

Enya noted that technical studies have been conducted on the performance of engines using B50.

Agriculture Minister Andy Amran Suleiman has also conducted trials of B50 biodiesel in South Kalimantan.
