Thailand cuts palm oil content in biodiesel to curb rising costs

In the face of rising palm oil prices, the Department of Energy will reduce the amount of palm oil used in biodiesel fuel from B7 biodiesel to B5 biodiesel starting 21 November.

B7 is a blend of 7 per cent palm biodiesel and 93 per cent petroleum diesel, while B5 contains 5 per cent palm biodiesel.

Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga said the move, which was approved at a meeting of the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) on Thursday, was expected to help reduce the cost of biodiesel.
